The process of detangling Chicago’s Jane Byrne Interchange moves into a new phase this week. McHugh Construction has announced that work on the structural steel portion of the project is complete, and now the concrete road deck will be poured.
McHugh Construction shared the photo above showing one of the ramp decks ready for concrete.
Several smaller portions of the project have already been completed, like new bridges for Halsted Street, Morgan Street, and Peoria Street.
The goal is to increase capacity while simplifying the intersection of Interstates 90, 94, and 290. A big part of that involves cutting down on the number of crashes. Each year 1,100 of the 300,000 vehicles that try to navigate the interchange fail to do so successfully.
