The Heritage ’66 Is the Extra Le Mans-y Ford GT

2017 Ford GT 66 Heritage

Hot on the heels of its GTE victory at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford would like to invite those fortunate enough to garner a spot in the GT purchasing line a shot at something in the commemorative vein. It’s called the Heritage ’66 package, and it’s based around the color scheme of the 1966 GT40 Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren drove to victory in Ford’s historic 1-2-3 sweep of the famed endurance competition.

2017 Ford GT 66 Heritage

Ford echoes the McLaren/Amon car by laying down a coat of Shadow Black paint on the GT’s buttressed body, and accenting it with silver stripes and exposed carbon fiber. If you’d care for a more modern riff on the classic scheme, you can opt for matte-black paint. The wheels are finished in gold satin, with black lug nuts, and naturally, the car wears a white roundel carrying a black #2.

Inside, the cabin is swathed in ebony leather featuring Ford GT logos on the seats and steering wheel. The instrument panel receives a gold applique, as do the shift paddles and seat X-brace. The seatbelts are made of a unique blue webbing. Naturally, a special edition wouldn’t be worth much to the collector types without a commemorative serialized ID plate (why this is a thing on a car that’s so obviously limited, we’re not sure). The doorsills are finished in exposed matte carbon, as are the air registers and center console.

As for a chance to own one? The car will only be available during the GT’s 2017 model year. Approved customers will have the choice to opt for the package. As such, all 250 cars being constructed for 2017 could feature the Heritage ’66 package. We imagine, however, that there are a bunch of dudes in folding Persol sunglasses hoping that the commemorative 2018 models will wear a certain blue/orange scheme. As for us? We’re holding out for the OG Supervan livery.
