No. 9 Walton Digs Deep. Really Deep.

No 9 Walton

Excavation of the below-grade parking garage continues at No. 9 Walton.

No. 9 Walton, the Hartshorne Plunkard Architects-designed luxury condo tower JDL Development is constructing at 9 West Walton Street in the Gold Coast, is in the midst of a serious excavation undertaking, and we have the scoop.

Actually, Lend Lease and Lindahl Brothers have the scoop. And they’re putting it to good use. We stopped by to check out progress on the 35-story, 67-condo tower, and found crews pulling truckloads of thick, damp clay out of the ground. With all No. 9’s parking to be concealed underground, it’s no wonder crews are having to go deep before they can start building up.

Speaking of building up, we also caught the new tower crane, permitted by the City of Chicago on February 1, in its infancy. Expect to see that soaring above the Gold Coast any day now.
