12 Minutes With Adrian Smith

There are “starchitects” who are big names with few real world projects, and there are architects who are stars who actually build amazing, fantastic, envelope-pushing buildings.  Adrian Smith is one of those later stars — someone who actually gets things done.

The Chicago-born industry leader is known globally for having his name on such projects as Canary Wharf, and the General Motors Renaissance Center while at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.

Not content with designing the 2,722-foot-tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the current tallest building in the world, he also designed the currently-under-construction Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, which at 3,307 feet, will become the next tallest building in the world when completed.

During its New York conference last year, the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat interviewed Mr. Smith and recently made the video of that interview public (above).  Enjoy.
