The Volkswagen e-Golf Touch Is Here! Gesticulate Wildly!

Volkswagen e-Golf Touch

Volkswagen’s taking the floor at the Consumer Electronics Show to show off its future infotainment system. The bearer of such technology? An electric version of the 10Best-winning Golf renamed with secondhand Cupertino flair. Welcome, won’t you, the e-Golf Touch!

Based on VW’s latest edition of their Modular Infotainment System, featuring a 9.2-inch, 1280×640-pixel display, the touchable e-Golf’s center stack features interactive tiles, enabling the operator to configure the system according to his or her wont. More importantly, it offers gesture control, which we have yet to see work in any way, shape, or form that is preferable to turning a knob or pushing a button. (As an aside, the TARDIS does not have gesture control, but it does have a swimming pool; we would like an e-Golf with a swimming pool, in the manner of a 1970s limousine of ostentation.)

Rear-seat passengers will be able to charge their smartphones wirelessly via the rear armrests. We look forward to the day the driver can charge his Sonicare toothbrush wirelessly and use it without the brushing action interfering with the gesture controls. The touchy ’lectro Golf also features a USB Type C port, allowing for faster charging of devices, as well as high-speed data transfer. Another boon for those in the back: the Touch features electronic voice amplification, allowing for easier conversation between rows.

Finally, VW’s announced Personalization 2.0, which allows settings to be stored in the cloud, and accessed via Volkswagen Car-Net ID, meaning that in the future, it’ll be theoretically possible to make any Volkswagen feel like your own Volkswagen.
