With a starting price of $30,890, the updated 2017 Nissan Pathfinder costs $160 more than last year’s model—a modest sum, given the vehicle’s many improvements.

Available in S, SV, SL, and Platinum grades, all 2017 Nissan Pathfinders benefit from exterior revisions that Nissan characterizes as “more rugged” and “masculine”—although we’ll leave that call to you. The 2017 Pathfinder also receives an improved display screen in the gauge cluster display, an 8.0-inch center-mounted touchscreen (an inch larger than before), and a revised 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque (up by 24 horsepower and 19 lb-ft from last year) that enables the SUV to tow up to 6000 pounds (versus 5000 previously). Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available for $1690 on all models.

Stepping up from the base Pathfinder S to the SV requires $33,580—making it $470 less costly than last year’s model. The SV brings features including a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic headlights, a power driver’s seat, and more. It also opens up the options sheet, with customers able to add a navigation system, as well as safety features including a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.

The SV’s available safety items come standard on the $36,600 Pathfinder SL, which also includes leather-upholstered first- and second-row seats, a power passenger seat, heated front seats and outboard second-row seats, a power hatch with new-for-2017 foot-activated motion detectors for opening and closing, and Nissan’s updated surround-view monitor with moving-object detection. Like the SV, the 2017 Pathfinder SL is actually less pricey than its 2016 equivalent, undercutting it by $710.

Finally, the top-of-the-line $42,770 Pathfinder Platinum includes all of the above, plus LED headlights, bigger wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a Bose premium audio system, navigation, and new-for-2017 adaptive cruise control and automated emergency braking. The updated tech comes at a cost, though, as the Platinum is $260 more expensive than its 2016 model year counterpart.

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is on sale now, and is ready to mix it up with seven-passenger crossover vehicles such as the Ford Explorer, the Honda Pilot, and the Toyota Highlander.
