True Blue: 2017 Buick Cascada ST Can Be Had in Any Color, As Long As It’s Blue

The Buick Cascada convertible enters its sophomore year with the addition of a new trim level. The new Cascada Sport Touring, or ST, follows in the footsteps of the LaCrosse Sport Touring, the Regal Sport Touring, and the Verano Sport Touring in that it’s an appearance package and little more.

In the case of the Cascada, the ST separates itself with special 20-inch, five-spoke wheels. Buick guises up the ST’s all-black interior with a set of sportier pedals and a flat-bottom steering wheel. And all STs are painted True Blue Metallic, a hue that’s exclusive to this variant.

Available this fall, the Cascada ST will cost $37,885 and comes fully loaded. Buick hasn’t released 2017 Cascada pricing yet, but if it stays unchanged from 2016, then the ST will cost just $500 more than a top-of-the-line 2016 Cascada 1SP we tested earlier this year. Like that car, the front-wheel-drive Cascada ST features a 200-hp, 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Given that the ST adds little substance to the Cascada’s mix, our feelings toward the Cascada ST should match our verdict on the 2016 Cascada 1SP. While we appreciated that car’s styling and the operation of its convertible top (which can be lowered in 17 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph), we criticized the car’s cowl shake as well as its hefty curb weight that contributed to a 0-to-60-mph time of 8.3 seconds and observed fuel economy of just 20 mpg. The Sport Touring is unlikely to improve upon those figures.
