City OK’s Wedging Another Hotel In Along the Chicago River

The Chicago River has always been a popular place to be.  It’s where the city was born, commerce commenced, and unlike another major Midwestern city’s downtown river, it’s never spontaneously combusted.

So with all the new riverwalk construction, and talk about making the river safer to be in and around (not that it’s ever lacked for boaters, fishermen, and involuntary swimmers), it’s not surprising that yet another hotel is hoisting its shoulder and muscling in to bask in the riparian delights.

As our Zachary Pollack told you back in May of this year, 322 North Clark (previously 330 North Clark) will replace the surface parking lot and furniture store behind the Reid Murdoch Building with a 395-foot-tall HKS-designed glass hotel tower.  The Friedman Properties project includes up to 500 rooms, a rooftop terrace, and 85,000 square feet of office space above a ground floor lobby and retail area.

The building’s size, scale, and design were not opposed by neighbors at a public meeting back in the spring, though there were the usual concerns about traffic congestion.
