We’re still a week away from an official announcement, but the Chicago Tribune says President Barack Obama has chosen Jackson Park for the Obama Presidential Center.

It was quite some time ago that the location for the presidential library was narrowed down to either Washington Park, or Jackson Park.  But until now it was widely believed that Washington Park was the front runner.

How much of Jackson Park will be impacted by the project remains to be seen.  Washington Park has better access via CTA trains and buses.  But Jackson is well served by a Metra link and Lake Shore Drive, and has a lovely lakefront location.  Imagine water taxi service between Navy Pier and the Obama Center.

One month ago it was announced that the Obama library will be designed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects and Partners (TWBTA) and Interactive Design Architects (IDEA).

Now that the team has a location to work with, we can look forward to some preliminary drawing leaking out.  Keep and eye on the Tribune and the Sun-Times for first word on those.
