Here Comes The Oriental Theater Hotel

The upper levels of the Oriental Theater Building at 32 West Randolph Street have been a question mark for some time now.  Some believed they were going to become student housing.  Others put their money on apartments.

Two months ago we told you the safe bet was a hotel, and now that’s starting to happen.    From the permit issued mere days ago:

Permit issued for renovation/alteration
**DIRECT DEVELOPER SERVICE** CONVERT EXISTING 23-STORY OFFICE TOWER FROM FLOORS 3 TO 22 FOR NEW HOTEL WITH 200 KEYS AND AMENITIES. WORK TO ALSO TAKE PLACE ON LEVELS B2, B1, AND LEVEL 1 FOR HOTEL MECHANICAL/ ELECTRICAL AND BACK OF HOUSE FUNCTIONS.

The hotel that John Murphy can now start construction on in the vintage skyscraper will go by the name Cambria Hotel & Suites Chicago – City Center.  He hopes to have it up and running by September of next year.

It will have a sister flag up the road at the Cambria Hotel and Suites Chicago – Magnificent Mile, soon to be formerly the MileNorth Hotel at 168 East Superior Street.
