Feeling a Connection: Some Older Kias to Receive Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

CarPlay, Apple, Android, Auto

With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto becoming as ubiquitous in new cars and trucks as air-conditioning and cruise control, some older vehicle owners may feel a little left out of the technological loop. Fortunately for a number of Kia customers, the Korean brand is offering a software update that will bring the latest technology to some of its older vehicles—going as far back as the 2014 model year.

That’s right, along with UVO3-equipped 2017 model-year vehicles such as the Kia Forte and the Kia Sportage, some current Kia owners will be able to download software that expands the capabilities of their vehicle’s infotainment system. Limited to navigation-equipped models, the software can be transplanted into 2014-2016 Soul hatchbacks; 2015-2016 Optima, Optima Hybrid, Sedona, and Soul EV models; and 2016 Sorento crossover SUVs.

Kia notes that it will email customers with instructions on how to update their vehicle’s software to gain access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto by the end of the month. Currently, the 2017 Kia Forte is one of the 10 least expensive new cars available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as consumers can purchase a Forte sedan with the technology for as little as $20,050.
