The skyscraper at 167 West Erie that is in the process of replacing the flagship Gino’s East pizzaria, which replaced the Planet Hollywood restaurant, is making rapid progress in River North.

Construction crews are busy as bees, as you can see in the photo above sent in by Joe Zekas over at YoChicago!.  The building’s central core is starting to peek out over its immediate neighbors, even as it competes for sky with neighboring towers also on the rise.

When complete, the building will soar a little over 400 feet into the air, with 450 residences across 39 stories.  The $154 million project, designed by Loewenberg Architects, also includes retail space and 219 parking spots in its podium.  The developers are Magellan and Mac Management.
