There’s a new face peering around the oddly rounded timber columns of FitzGerald Associates in the West Loop.  It’s Michael Breclaw, formerly of OKW Architects, just a few blocks away.

At OKW, Mr. Breclaw was Director of Design.  After 14 years there, he’s now moved to FitzGerald where he takes the role of Associate Principal.

And because we know you want to add him to your LinkedIn circle, here’s his link.

Here’s the press release from friends-of-the-blog, FitzGerald Associates:

Michael Breclaw Joins FitzGerald Associates Architects

Industry veteran’s wide-ranging design expertise further expands firm’s capabilities

FitzGerald Associates Architects, a leading national residential and commercial design firm, announced that award-winning industry veteran Michael Breclaw, AIA, LEED AP, has joined the firm as associate principal.

Breclaw has more than 25 years of experience as a design professional and has led design on a wide variety of projects, including large-scale retail and mixed-use developments, multifamily and student housing, and corporate and governmental/institutional complexes. Among his significant projects are the mixed-use developments of Uptown Park Ridge in Park Ridge, Ill., and NEWCITY in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, both of which have won Urban Land Institute Chicago’s Vision Award. Breclaw also led the design of Motorola’s former campuses in Libertyville and Harvard, Ill.

“The value Mike adds to our team cannot be overstated,” said Pat FitzGerald, chairman and managing principal of FitzGerald Associates Architects. “His considerable design experience in mixed-use and transit-oriented development is a natural fit with our firm’s core services. Further, his deep knowledge of retail, student housing and institutional design will allow us to expand service to our clients as they grow their businesses and explore new design options for their developments.”

Prior to joining FitzGerald on June 1, Breclaw worked at Chicago-based OKW Architects as principal and director of design for more than 14 years.

“I’m excited to join the talented and progressive team at FitzGerald Associates Architects – they’ve done especially amazing work in recent years,” said Breclaw. “The firm’s numerous retail and transit-oriented developments align with a primary focus of my work. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s extensive portfolio of multifamily and mixed-use projects throughout the Chicago area and beyond.”

An Evanston resident, Breclaw received his undergraduate degree from Wabash College and a Master of Architecture from Princeton University. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and member of the American Institute of Architects’ Chicago chapter, U.S. Green Building Council’s Illinois chapter and Lambda Alpha International.
