Row Your Own: The 12 Crossovers and SUVs You Can Still Get with a Manual Transmission

At their inception, SUVs were the rough-and-tumble types, with go-anywhere aspirations and basic, truckish roots. These simple, durable, rugged machines usually had a manual transmission. Things have changed a lot since then. But while scanning today’s crop of decidedly less authentic, car-based crossovers and those few remaining truck-based SUVs, we still managed to find a dozen models that can be had with a stick shift. It is worth noting, however, that in only seven of these twelve can one pair the manual transmission with four-wheel drive. Without that feature, many of these manual-transmission crossovers are hardly distinguishable from the hatchbacks they’re based on. Nevertheless, here are the twelve SUVs and crossovers that haven’t yet done away with the shift-it-yourself option.2016 Honda HR-V2016 Honda HR-V2016 Outlander Sport SEL2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport2015 Jeep Renegade 1.4T AWD2015 Jeep Renegade 1.4T AWD2016 Fiat 500X2016 Fiat 500X2015 Mini Cooper Countryman S2013 Mini Cooper Countryman2015 Mazda CX-52015 Mazda CX-52016 Nissan Juke NISMO RS2016 Nissan Juke NISMO RS2016 Subaru Crosstrek2013 Subaru Crosstrek2016 Jeep CompassJeep Compass (Euro-spec)2016 Jeep Patriot2016 Jeep Patriot2017 Subaru Forester2016 Subaru Forester2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys
