Thanks to a tip from Loop Spy Dan, we now know that the first heavy equipment has arrived at 130 North Franklin Street in The Loop.  130 is a 50-something-story-tall office building being developed by Tsihman-Speyer in New York, and designed by Krueck+Sexton in River North.

What’s arrived is a pair of excavators from National Wrecking Company, and they’re parked right where the 130 tower will rise, a vacant lot that’s been empty even longer than this blog has been publishing.  The other half of the plot — half of a city block running north to south — is a parking lot.  That portion will be where the skyscraper’s obligatory podium will be built, preserving the eastward views of 123 North Wacker.  Next door, 101 North Wacker get shafted, as 130 is double its height, and will obliterate its views to the east.

At this point, we don’t see any permits for this location, but that could change any day.
