Forza Adds #66 Ford GT Race Car Just in Time for 2016 Le Mans Race

As part of its release of the Forza Racing Championship, a new online simulated racing structure, the Forza video game franchise announced that it is offering customers a free download of a significant current Ford race car, the #66 Chip Ganassi Racing GT. Its non-pixelated real-world prototype will join three other Ford GT race cars June 18–19 in the 2016 running of the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race.

Not to deflect Forza Racing Championship news to backwater status—for the record, the new series will enable all users to compete for real-world prizes—but the #66 Ford GT race car download is just beyond cool. The car’s number, which harkens back to the original 1966 Ford GT race car’s overall win at Le Mans, will weigh heavily, at least symbolically, at next week’s Le Mans 24-hour race—the first one with a Ford factory team entry since 1969. The other three Ford GTs racing in France will wear the numbers 67, 68, and 69, to commemorate Ford’s other victories at Le Mans in 1967, 1968, and 1969. The digitized Forza Racing 2016 GT race car, the 66, will be available to download on Forza 6 as soon as users receive download codes, which are being sent out now via Xbox Live messages. Due to the volume of recipients, it could take up to a week for all users to receive the code.
