Swedish Message: Volvo Teases Upcoming V40 on Snapchat

Volvo Concept 40_detail_3Volvo has been resurgent lately, cranking out new product and laying the groundwork for the future. Most recently, the company revealed the hot new V90 wagon, and turned us loose in the 2017 S60 Polestar sedan and its long-roof sibling, the 2017 V60 Polestar wagon. Now Volvo has begun to tease the upcoming V40 and XC40, a pair of smaller models that will lead the brand’s return to the premium small-car segment to take on the likes of the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

volvo snapchatThe first images slid across the Internet via Snapchat, accompanied by emoticons and the phrases “Teasing the future of Volvo,” and “Not your daddy’s Volvo,” the latter with a father-like emoticon shedding a tear. We also snagged the single promo shot sans emoticons (at top). The vehicle is officially titled “Volvo Concept 40,” and from the teaser at least, it appears to evolve the handsome design language of the new S90. We’ll be on site at the company’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, next week when the vehicle is unwrapped, so we’ll see if it looks as good in person.

The new V40 will be built on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which is also slated to underpin some Geely products. Look for it to hit our shores as an 2018 model. The last 40-series Volvos left the U.S. market in 2011, after suffering several years of declining sales.
