We told you last December that developer John Murphy teamed up with Choice Hotels and Suites to convert the tower portion of the Oriental Theater Building (32 West Randolph Street) into a Cambria Hotel & Suites (though it appears to be news to some). Now we’re learning a little more about the plan.
Back in December we told you the project appeared to be a “go,” with financing already lined up for the conversion. Now Mr. Murphy’s company and Cambria Hotels have put out a press release reminding everyone that this project is still coming. And there are also two new nuggets of information:
- The Oriental Theater hotel will be called the Cambria Hotel & Suites Chicago – City Center, and open in September of next year.
- The MileNorth Hotel (166 East Superior Street, formerly the Affinia Chicago Hotel) in Steeterville is going to become the Cambria Hotel and Suites Chicago – Magnificent Mile by the middle of next year.
You may remember John Murphy as the developer of SCB’s fascinating faceted new skyscraper planned for 1326 South Michigan Avenue in the South Loop, and the man who was finally able to save the Chicago Motor Club building at 68 East Wacker Place when he converted it into a Hampton Inn.
