Tesla Model X Recalled for Third-Row Seats

2016 Tesla Model X

Tesla is recalling 2700 Model X crossovers in the U.S. for rear seats that can fail to latch in a crash, according to Automotive News.

The 2016 Model X has latches in the third-row seat bench that may cause the backrest to collapse on top of a passenger in a crash. Tesla discovered the problem during a European Union frontal crash test. Despite passing U.S. tests, the company said it would fix the Model X seats for all owners and encouraged them not to use the seats until Tesla service centers can replace them over the next five weeks. Only vehicles built before March 26 are affected.

This is not the first time Tesla has had defects with seats. In 2013, the Model S was recalled for faulty second-row mounting brackets that could detach from the backrest in a crash. In November, Tesla recalled every Model S for potentially loose seat-belt pretensioners.
