Speedier Speed: Bentley Continental GT Speed Gets Power Boost, New Black Edition

Bentley Continental GT Speed Black Edition

The speediest Bentley ever just got a bit speedier. A power boost for the top-dog Continental GT Speed adds 7 horsepower and 13 lb-ft of torque to the car’s monstrous twin-turbo W-12 engine, bringing totals to an impressive 633 hp and 620 lb-ft. There’a also a new Black Edition model for the Continental GT Speed that gains, as you’d expect, a array of contrasting dark trim.

Bentley doesn’t say exactly how it extracted the extra grunt out of the 6.0-liter W-12—we have an inquiry in to the company—but does let on that the increased torque peak is still delivered between 2000 and 5000 rpm. The claimed 0-to-60-mph acceleration time drops down by a tenth to 3.9 seconds, while the Speed’s top speed remains at 206 mph—still pretty darn fast for a 2.5-plus-ton beast. As before, power is routed through an eight-speed automatic and an all-wheel-drive system.

The Continental GT Speed also is jumping into the ever-expanding blacked-out special-edition pool with the creatively named Black Edition. It gains numerous pieces of contrasting dark exterior trim, including the window surrounds, lighting bezels, and 21-inch wheels, while customers can choose one of four contrasting hues to for the front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser. On the inside, carbon-fiber trim is everywhere and contrasting leather inserts for the seats match the exterior trim accents.

Both the convertible and coupe Continental GT Speed can be ordered with this trim package, which doesn’t yet have a price. But with the Speed itself starting at $242,125, most buyers probably aren’t too worried about cost in the first place.
