Slice of Life: Portillo’s (Chocolate-Cake) Shakes Up the South Loop

Portillo's South Loop

Give us a call at the West Loop bureau. We’ll let you know how long the drive-thru line is.

We don’t normally get involved in stand-alone restaurant construction here at Chicago Architecture. But this isn’t a normal situation. This is about lunch. It’s about not having to settle for the 6,284 lunch options already available within walking distance (we take long lunch breaks around here) of our desks. This is about the South Loop getting its very first Portillo’s restaurant.

If you have a beef with Chicago’s favorite chain of hot-doggeries, you’ll want to avoid scheduling your appointments with us between the hours of 11:00am and 2:00pm once May arrives. That’s when Portillo’s expects to be slinging dogs, burgers, and Italian Beef — ohhhh, Italian Beef — in its second Chicago location, at 520 West Taylor Street. Feel free to call us and leave a message though; we’ll get back to you once we awake from our post-meal naps.

Portillo's South Loop

There’s a Divvy station right next to the South Loop Portillo’s. Every trip we make there will be a healthy one.
