Simpson Querrey? or Simpson Quarry? Northwestern’s Deep Dig

Simpson Querrey

Future home of the Louis A. Simpson and Kimberly K. Querrey Institute for BioNanotechnology in Medicine

With caisson work having wrapped up, crews have turned their attention to digging a foundation at the Louis A. Simpson and Kimberly K. Querrey Institute for BioNanotechnology in Medicine on Northwestern University‘s Chicago campus. Construction got underway in September at 333 East Superior Street, the former site of the old Prentice Women’s Hospital.

The Simpson-Querrey Building, designed by Perkins + Will,  is being constructed in two phases.  Phase One will consist of the building’s base, or podium, to be completed by 2018.  The soaring, curvy tower won’t come until an unspecified later date.  If built, it will rise 37 stories, dwarfing its immediate neighbors, but becoming a rather modest presence compared to many other buildings in Streeterville.
