There’s music in the air around the Lincoln Park neighborhood. And soon, construction materials will be up there as well:

Those “plans” are for the new DePaul School of Music, on the campus of DePaul University. The tower crane permit, issued by the City of Chicago March 25th, means the school can start replacing McGaw Hall, which has been thoroughly demolished to make room for the new facility. Sure, there’s the matter of burying 60-some caissons first (there exists no foundation permit yet), so it may be awhile before we see the crane take root. Once those are done, it’ll be show time.
Antunovich Associates has designed several venues within the new School of Music. Included will be two recital halls, one with 140 seats, the other 81 seats, the 76-seat Philip Corboy and Mary Dempsey Jazz Hall, and the 505-seat William E. and Mary Pat Gannon Hay Concert Hall. An atrium cafe will be added, as will be 115 underground parking spaces. Enclosed walkways will connect the new music center with the existing buildings to its north and south.
Bulley & Andrews has the general contractor duties, and is expecting to have the everything tuned up and ready to play by Spring 2018.
What used to be McGaw Hall is now a blank canvas for the new DePaul School of Music.
