Blue Plate Catering Serving Up New West Town Digs

It’s been two years since we’ve submitted concrete evidence (not literally, of course) of a new development coming to the West Loop neighborhood at 1061 West Van Buren Street. That’s the current home of Blue Plate Catering, a nationally recognized caterer in Chicago since 1983.

Blue Plate’s success had led them to seek out larger facilities, and they’ve deciding a combination of renovating old space and adding new space will serve them best. So they’re packing up the good china and flatware, and heading north a few blocks to 305 North Ogden Avenue. It is here they’re rehabbing a one-story, L-shaped brick building that sits along the corner of North Ada Street and West Carroll Avenue.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Splitt Architects has designed a three-story building and 25 parking spaces along West Fulton Street between Ada and Ogden. That structure will house Blue Plate’s corporate offices, a catering kitchen, and a commercial commissary. 41 North Contractors of Lisle is the general contractor. We reached out to Blue Plate, but they are unable to provide an expected finish date for the project at this time.
