Because 600 hp Is Not Enough: Bentley Bentayga “Speed” All But Assured

2017 Bentley Bentayga

Did Grizzly Adams have a beard? Is the Pope Catholic? Will there be a Bentley Bentayga Speed? Yes, yes, and almost certainly.

“…[I]f you’re asking whether there [will] be Speed versions of the Bentayga eventually, then yes, you might expect that,” Bentley’s CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer told Auto Express at the Beijing Motor Show.

Bentley’s “Speed” line currently consists of the Continental GT Speed and the Mulsanne Speed. Both cars improve upon the performance of their standard 12-cylinder counterparts and offer an additional 51- and 25-horsepower, respectively.

With 600-hp being produced from the standard Bentayga’s massive 6.0-liter W-12 engine, it’s safe to assume that a Bentayga Speed will come to market with at least 625-hp, if not more. Don’t be surprised if the Speed loses some of the standard Bentayga’s off-road prowess, too, as the more-powerful variant is likely to favor on-road performance.

Along with the all-but-confirmed Bentayga Speed, Bentley is slated to release a number of new products over the next few years. A new Continental is expected to appear in 2017, and rumor is that Bentley is looking into adding more SUVs to its lineup, including a Bentayga coupe. Meanwhile, there’s still hope that the gorgeous EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car will see the light of day.
