Volvo S90 Priced from $47,945—Unless You Order It Online

Volvo has released U.S. pricing for its new S90 luxury sedan, and the starting figure is $47,945 for the front-wheel-drive T5. All-wheel-drive T6 models start at $53,945, while two specially equipped introductory versions top $60,000—but they can be ordered completely online, and include the services of a “Volvo Concierge.”

The Volvo Concierge can help walk a buyer through the ordering process, keeping them apprised of the status of the car as it proceeds from assembly to shipment from Sweden (S90 deliveries begin this summer). Additionally, according to Volvo: “Upon delivery, all the car’s settings such as radio stations and software apps, can be configured based on the owner’s personal preferences.” The cars still must be delivered through dealers, with whom the buyer may negotiate the deal as usual.

Other Volvo models are not eligible for online ordering (although Volvo did something similar for the launch edition of the XC90), and in fact, it’s only certain pre-packaged versions of the S90 that can be purchased this way. For online ordering, there’s a T6 AWD Momentum for $60,505 or the fancier Inscription for $66,905, both of which come loaded with the Momentum Plus, Convenience, Climate, and Vision Packages.

For those willing to buy their S90 the old-fashioned way, the T5 (250-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four, front-wheel drive) can be had as the $47,945 Momentum or in Inscription trim for $3500 more. The T6 (316-hp turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four, all-wheel drive) is $53,945; add $3300 for the Inscription.

The third S90 variant, the plug-in hybrid Twin Engine T8, isn’t available for order yet; it won’t be offered Stateside until later this year.

All S90s come standard with leather, lane-keep assist, selectable drive modes, auto stop-start, dual power seats with driver’s seat memory, a sunroof, a backup camera and rear parking sensors, Volvo Sensus connectivity, and adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist semi-autonomous capability.

Inscription adds adaptive LED headlights with “Thor’s hammer” daytime running lights, heated and ventilated front seats, Apple CarPlay, Nappa leather plus a leather-covered dash and door panels, power-adjustable side bolsters and cushion extender for the front seats, 19-inch wheels, and a few other niceties.

For $3500 more than the outgoing S80, the new S90 includes a lot more stuff. It also looks a heck of a lot better. But we just might hold out for the even sharper-looking V90 wagon.
