Sweet Release: Scion tC Bows Out with Release Series 10.0

Over its history, whenever Scion has wanted to juice interest in one of its models—most often one that was nearing the end of its life span—it ginned up a special version inevitably called a Release Series. So it’s absolutely in character that Scion would at this juncture roll out the tC Release Series 10.0, a tarted-up version of the tC coupe, just before it—and the Scion brand—are released for good.

2016 Scion tC Release Series 10.0The tC may be Scion’s most popular model, but unlike the newer iA sedan, iM hatchback, and FR-S sports car, the aging coupe won’t live on as a Toyota. With the Release Series 10.0, however, the tC is going out in true Scion style, squatting on a lowered suspension, sporting spoilers front and rear, and wearing rocker-panel extensions and gloss-black wheels. All examples are Barcelona Red with a black-and-red interior, and further get a performance exhaust, black badges, and a numbered plaque. Pricing for the tC Release Series 10.0 is $23,985 with the standard six-speed manual and $25,135 for the automatic.

Scion will display the tC Release Series 10.0 at the 2016 New York auto show, along with six concept cars from the brand’s past. The company notes that it was 14 years ago at the very show where Scion got its start, unveiling its very first concept vehicles and announcing the new division. Unfortunately for Toyota, its youth brand proved about as fleeting as youth itself.
