Pickup-truck marketers pander to Texas for two good reasons. First, pickups are more popular in that state than any other, accounting for one in five new-vehicle registrations, versus just 12 percent nationally. Second, Texans seem particularly receptive to Texas-themed products that celebrate the Texas-ness of Texas. Thus, while it’s hard to imagine a Ford F-150 Hoosier really resonating in Indiana or a Chevy Silverado Nutmeg Edition driving ‘em wild in New Haven, Ram’s Lone Star (a Texas-only offering) is the most popular variant of its 1500 pickup in the Lone Star State.

Indeed, Ram appears to have embraced this phenomenon more fervently than any other truck maker. Sure, Ford sells a King Ranch version of its F-series, and Chevrolet has offered Texas Edition versions of its Silverado. But Ram claims to have gotten there first, launching its first Texas-exclusive special back in 2002. Besides the Lone Star (which is equivalent to the Big Horn in the rest of the country), it has the Laramie Longhorn (sort of a Wyoming-Texas mashup) as one of its fancy-pants trim levels, and it rolled out the Texas Ranger concept truck last year.

Now comes the Yellow Rose of Texas edition of the Ram 1500 Lone Star. Named after the song (a Billboard number-one hit by Mitch Miller back in 1955, Ram reminds us), the Yellow Rose of Texas truck is denoted by its Stinger Yellow paint, and is offered with either two-or four-wheel drive.
