Work is about to get underway building the largest mixed-use project downtown Chicago has seen in years. Atrium Village (1140 North Wells Street), once a quaint enclave of low-rise homes slightly off-the-beaten-path, is about to join the city’s skyscraper club.

We outlined the entire redevelopment project back in November, but here’s a recap:
- Four residential skyscrapers 30-39 stories tall
- Dozens of townhomes
- A school
- Retail space out the wazoo
- Developer: Vancouver’s Onni Group
We know Chicagoland’s skyscraper nerds would love to see four cranes working on four towers next to each other at the same time. But hold on, Fester. This is Chicago, not Dubai. So far we’ve only got permits for Phase One:
Foundation and partial superstructure through level 7 deck for proposed 31-story residential tower with 400 DUs and 7-story podium building with parking, retail and residential.
Here are the specs:
- 342 feet tall
- Width: 208 feet, 8½ inches
- Tower width: 69 feet
- Length: 214 feet, 10 inches
- Parking: 342 private spaces in retail/residential podium
- Parking: 74 public below-grade spaces for retail
- Bicycle parking: Yes. Amount unspecified
- Retail space: 25,000 square feet
- Loading docks off the public alley that connects to Division Street
- Residential parking entrance: driveway off of Wells Street
- Retail parking entrance: Alley off of Division Street
- Residential entrance: Off Wells Street
