The Lamborghini Centenario Will be Carbon-Fiber Madness

Ferruccio Lamborghini would probably be flattered to see the company that bears his name celebrate his 100th birthday. But this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the March 1966 debut of the Lamborghini Miura at the Geneva auto show. The mid-engined Miura, of course, was nothing less than a redefinition of the supercar; it made the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona look dated, and it fundamentally changed the industry’s approach to high-performance cars. It is on these occasions that Lamborghini is set to unveil a new hypercar, the Centenario.

Few details have emerged so far, but we know that exactly 40 units of the Centenario will be built, splite evenly between coupes and roadsters. The price point of a whopping €2.2 million (roughly $2.45 million at today’s exchange rates) failed to deter prospective buyers: We hear that every single Lamborghini Centenario is spoken for.

The lucky owners can relish in the knowledge of driving a uniquely styled and supremely rare supercar, much in the fashion of the Reventón, the Veneno, and the Sesto Elemento previously released by Lamborghini. Its design will be highlighted by the fact that it will be shown in exposed carbon fiber. And given that this car is expected, in part, to pay homage to the Miura, we expect to see nothing less than an ultra-powerful V-12 engine, positioned exactly where it belongs: Just behind the occupants.
