I Hear the Crane A-Coming

No 9 Walton

Insert tower crane here, at No. 9 Walton.

It might not be rolling ’round the bend, but there’s yet another tower crane heading up the street that’ll soon sprout out of the Gold Coast.

Monday, the City of Chicago granted a permit to erect a tower crane for No. 9 Walton (9 West Walton Street.) Crews have been doing foundation work here since September, and the plot is finally ready to start building upward.

PHASE 1 FOUNDATION AND INITIAL SET-UP OF A TEMPORARY TOWER CRANE: MANITOWOC MDT368A, AS PER PLANS.

You’ll recall this Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture design as the future home of developer James Letchinger. His firm, JDL Development, is erecting the 35-story tower, featuring 67 ultra-luxury condominiums, with a mix of duplexes and full-floor layouts. Mr. Letchinger vows the finest amenities and fixings, which is why he plans to live there himself.

If all goes according to plan, he and his 66 new neighbors will begin occupying their new digs late in 2017.
