Traditionally, the Chicago auto show has been referred to as “the truck show” by industry folks who remember the days when major automakers used to save their big pickup reveals for February in the blisteringly cold midwestern city’s McCormick Place. Manufacturers might have stopped bringing their biggest and best rigs to Chicago years ago, but for truck consumers—many of whom travel from all over the Midwest—the Chicago show remains a big deal, making Honda’s debut of its new line of parts and accessories for the 2017 Ridgeline pickup a keen move.

So far, Honda’s cache of Genuine Accessories, as it likes to call the pieces, is fairly limited. Most of the parts are glam items such as black roof rails, black roof-rail cross bars, black fender flares, running-board steps, and 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. Functional bits include a skid plate, a hard tonneau cover for the bed, a towing kit, and a 2-inch trailer ball. We’d like to see a brush bar for the front end, or maybe some roof-mounted driving lights, but perhaps Honda—or the aftermarket—will introduce such items in due time. For now, future Ridgeline owners can be assured that their trucks are ready to be accessorized.
