2017 Nissan Titan Half-Ton Pickup Detailed

2017 Nissan Titan

Nissan’s big news this year at the Chicago auto show was the introduction of the new Patrol-based Armada full-size ute, but almost as an aside, Nissan also confirmed its plans to introduce a half-ton Titan pickup for 2017. While the body and 390-hp 5.6-liter V-8 engine will be shared with the “XD” model, which is positioned between half-ton and three-quarter-ton pickups, the standard Titan will share nothing under the skin with the XD.

“The 2017 Nissan Titan will fit squarely in the middle of the half-ton segment,” said Rich Miller, Nissan North America’s director of product planning for trucks and SUVs and the chief product specialist for the Titan. The Titan and the XD will share cab, bed, and cabin bits, but “when it comes to the frame and the chassis, they don’t share a single bolt,” Miller said. “Even the lug nuts are different.” The standard Titan will ride on a wheelbase that, at 139.8 inches, is nearly a foot shorter than the XD’s, and at 228.1 inches in length, it’s nearly fifteen inches shorter overall. It also will be 1.5 inches lower in height.

When the truck goes on sale this summer, it will be offered in three cab lengths, with 5.5-, 6.5-, and 8-foot bed lengths. It also will follow the XD’s trim-level program, with five grades: S, SV, Pro-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve. One version Nissan did not mention was the V-6 model, which likely won’t arrive until 2017.
