The German website auto-press.de has released official pictures of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-class, ahead of the car’s scheduled unveiling at the Detroit auto show next week. The pictures show both the “sport” and “luxury” versions of the new E-class, which has been completely redesigned for 2017.

As is Mercedes custom, the sport version (at top) has a large three-pointed star and thick, horizontal bars within the grille, below which is a more aggressively sculpted lower front fascia. The luxury version (above) has a more traditional, chrome-plated Mercedes grille, topped by a stand-up hood ornament. The luxury version best shows off the close relationship between the design of the new E-class and that of the larger S-class—although a kinship to the smaller C-class is evident as well.

That relationship also can be seen in the E-class interior, images of which the company has already revealed. Top-spec models will boast dual 12.3-inch LCD screens, and the 2017 E-class also features small touch pads on the steering-wheel spokes.

The E-class is expected to launch in the States as an E300, an E450 AMG Sport, and a Mercedes-AMG E63 S. Diesel and plug-in-hybrid versions are likely to follow. Later, the E-class coupe/convertible will go in for their redesign as well. We’ll have more U.S.-specific info on the new E-class when it’s unveiled—officially this time—next week. In the meantime, you can head over to auto-press.de for more images.
