Here’s a bit of news that isn’t really news anymore in Chicago: There’s a new crane in the sky in River North.
Just two blocks south of the glorious Christmas Crane we showed you Wednesday, Smithfield Construction Group has erected a tower crane as work begins at 400 West Huron Street. It is there crews will be erecting a 15-story condominium tower, having received official go-ahead from the City of Chicago via building permit on December 2.
The new 400 West Huron Street is a design by Berkelhamer Architects, a California firm. You know their work from Eight O Five and Sono East. Atop the ground-floor retail space, developer Smithfield Properties plans to deliver 26 luxury condos. The two- to four-bedroom and penthouse residences will vary from 2,100 square feet to 4,900, plus have balconies or terraces with each unit. Buyers will also have the use of a two- or three-car private garage with their purchase. 61 parking spaces will be included in the development. Expect prices to range from one-and-a-quarter-million, to four million dollars.
